An Axios review of nearly 180,000 ICE arrests between 2017 and 2023 found that immigrants arrested for homicides accounted for less than 1% of “at-large” arrests, with most arrests involving immigration-related offenses, DUIs, drugs, and assault. Despite claims by President-elect Trump about mass deportations of criminal immigrants, the data shows that homicide and sexual assault make up only a small fraction of arrests. Studies consistently show that immigrants commit crimes at lower rates than U.S. citizens, and deportations of immigrants with criminal convictions have been a priority since the Obama administration.
